volunteers hiking at crystal rilee park

Friends of Chehalem Trails invites trail lovers of all ages (and species!) to join us for a unique outdoor experience on Sunday, June 22, at 9:00 AM at Bob and Crystal Rilee Park. The “Puppies, Ponies, and People Share the Trail” event offers a guided hike, trail etiquette education, and hands-on fun for the whole family—plus a chance to pet a pony!

This special event is part of the statewide “Share the Trail” program, which promotes respectful and friendly use of public trails among hikers, equestrians, dog walkers, and more. With support from Oregon Equestrian Trails (OET) and other trail advocacy groups, the program teaches everyone how to enjoy Oregon’s great outdoors—together.

“We may explore the trails differently, but we all share a love for being outside,” said Collette Hayes, Vice President of Outreach for OET. “This event is a great way to teach kids and adults alike how to be good trail stewards and neighbors—whether you’re on two feet or four hooves.”

The hike will follow a scenic 1.5-mile natural-surface loop through the hills of Rilee Park, with opportunities to continue hiking afterward. Participants will enjoy a kid-friendly scavenger hunt, trail safety tips, and a special opportunity to meet and learn about horses. Leashed dogs are welcome, and experienced equestrians will be on hand to guide positive pet-and-pony interactions.

Located on Parrett Mountain, Rilee Park is one of the largest parks in the Chehalem Park and Recreation District and home to rich history and expansive natural beauty. It’s the perfect setting to learn about trail sharing while making memories with friends, family, and furry companions.

Don’t miss this joyful celebration of trails, community, and cooperation.

Meet us at the farmhouse at 10500 NE Parrett Mountain Rd, Newberg, OR, by 9AM.
