What to Expect
We’ll be clearing brush, maintaining trails, and restoring pathways to ensure Rilee Park remains a welcoming space for everyone. No experience is necessary - we’ll provide tools, gloves, and guidance. Just wear long sleeves, pants, and sturdy closed-toe shoes, and meet us at the yellow farmhouse (10500 NE Parrett Mountain Rd) by 9 AM.
Why Rilee Park?
Tucked near the summit of Parrett Mountain, Rilee Park spans 325 acres of historic farmland and scenic forest between Newberg, Sherwood, and Wilsonville. Once managed by a non-profit foundation, the park was purchased by the Chehalem Park and Recreation District and represents a rare opportunity for public access to preserved natural land.
While recent policy changes have limited some forms of recreation, our goal remains clear: keep Rilee’s trails open, safe, and enjoyable for everyone. Volunteers from all backgrounds - hikers, cyclists, equestrians, students, families - are coming together to care for this shared space.
Trail Stewards in Action
Youth from the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA) will be joining the effort, bringing their energy and dedication to trail stewardship. “Even though our student-athletes can no longer ride here, they’re still stepping up to serve,” said Coach Doug Cousineau. “That’s what real community looks like.”
Let’s Work & Recreate - Together
Friends of Chehalem Trails believes that trails connect more than landscapes - they connect people. Whether you’re joining us for a volunteer day or one of our monthly hikes, you’re helping build a culture of cooperation and outdoor access for all.
